About Me:(Generous response attract more interest)
AN ENTERPRISE EDUCATOR &
COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PRACTITIONER

Jihad Muhammad, asserts that although the individual is an important component of an entrepreneurial endeavor, the building of a social network – a market/community, sparked by the efficient and effective formation and operation of a core group of individuals -a team, can be the central unit for greater entrepreneurial success among African-Americans. Indeed, Muhammad argues that the reason why many ethnic groups, many of whom are from Africa and/or countries of the African Diaspora, succeed economically in America is because of their collective, collaborative and consistent efforts to build market/communities and maintain a team, which mutually benefits from pooling their intellectual and financial resources.

Jihad T. Muhammad is also the primary coach/trainer/consultant for Urban Development Consultants, LLC and has worked for over fifteen plus years in community economic development (CED), providing program administration over grant funds coming from such sources as the Lilly Foundation, Indiana State Department of Commerce, the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, Gary Urban Enterprise Zone and the Gary, Hammond, East Chicago Empowerment Zone. He has worked to develop programs such as the Gary Small Business Incubator Initiative, the Gary Main Street Development Organization and Entrepreneurship Community Economic Development Academy to name a few of projects he has initiated.

Mr. Muhammad has served as Assistant Planner for Community Development Block Grant funding, first Executive Director of the Gary Urban Enterprise (Zone) Association (GUEA) and as Assistant Director for the Division of Community and Economic Development for the City of Gary, Indiana.

As an Entrepreneurship Educator with a passion for building the enterprising capacity of individuals, Mr. Muhammad has endeavored to become certified to teach Entrepreneurship by several leading organizations on the national level - the Small Business Development Center (SBA/NxLevel Curriculum), the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE University), the Illinois Institute for Entrepreneurship Education (IIEE), REAL Enterprises, Making Cents and EDGE University.

Mr. Muhammad graduated from the historical Gary Roosevelt High School in 1973, the only high school black students could attend, dating back to the 1920’s, Indiana University Northwest in 1984 and Southern New Hampshire University in 1997 after receiving a full scholarship from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and receiving a Master’s Degree in Community Economic Development.

Through his grant writing and strategic planning skills, Mr. Muhammad has secured funding and moved forward a myriad of projects and programs targeted toward enhancing the education and community economic development of youth, young adults and adults who have been deemed at-risk and/or with barriers to employment.

He continues his life of service by providing entrepreneurship educational workshops to a variety of target populations, public and private entities, such as, public school students, teachers, administrators, public housing residents and religious institutions in high performance business principles and practices.

Some of his workshops cover such topics as:
- How to Develop Community Economic Development Project Plans;
- How to Integrate Entrepreneurship into your Academic Lesson Plans;
- How to Start a For Profit Enterprises to achieve Social Objectives;
- How to Utilize Cooperative Economics to build a Sustainable Organization
- How to Write Proposals for Funding School/Faith/Community-based projects.

Mr. Muhammad is currently an adjunct professor at Indiana University Northwest, as well as, instructor at Chicago State University.
