The White power structure has never conceded anything for Black people without a demand, directly or indirectly, being made. Unfortunately, Black people in America have never been in a position to control to end results of our demands. We lack the wealth and power to control those results. Thus, when we demand equal facilities, trained staff, supplies and text books for our Black educational systems, what did we get as  a result? Integrated schools, where Whites controlled everything.

When we demanded equal rights, to be regarded as equal to anyone else, what was the result? Civil Rights legislation that must be enforced by the very same White's who hate Blacks. Thus, the laws are on the books, but are largely unenforced.

Are we capable of learning from the past? Can we adjust and re-focus our effort to elevate the condition of our Black people? Is it more effective to take advantage of White conservatism and reject integration, due to the fact it is a failure? Is it better to focus on restoring our sense of community and interdependence, than laud the achievements of a few?

It seems to me that as long as we rely on others to do for us those things we can do for ourselves, our demands will always meet with disappointment. Someone said, "God helps those who help themselves." Hopefully, the age of dependence and confrontational demands is past and we have grown enough to accept the responsibility of forging our own future, as Black people destined to regain rulership of the planet.

Just a few thoughts and questions to ponder. Peace.

Is it not time to give up being fixated on race, black & white and "white" people?

In a world where  one is thusly fixated that which one rails against is that thing that seemingly can't be done away with.

Like an abused woman - complaining and complaining and complaining about the abuse and the abuser but is still wedded and bound to him.

Let's see the world newly, in the spirit of Kwanzaa, through our own eyes and what we are committed to then question and inquire into the universal nature of POWER, CONCESSION AND DEMAND and what questioning and inquiry makes possible for ourselves, our people and human beings.

Language is the ultimate creative medium. Now let's inquire in to the key words of this statement and question: “Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will", really?

ah... but the fixation on black and white is caused by blacks being defined by whites. Meaning, We often know ourselves in relation to "them". We often define ourselves in relation to them. And we are often "conscious" of ourselves and how the world works in relation to them.

We are day and they are night. We are hot and they are cold. Before division between the thing was created, definitions of its separate parts were not needed. The understanding of black and white is important. We have a left brain and a right brain. The left brain takes things apart for logical understanding. The right brain puts things together for understanding. We can't go back to before we were separated and act like it didn't happen. Since it did we must recognize the inequality between the separate aspects of human kind. We must understand them as separate parts, so created, so that we can understand the whole and hopefully... one day heal.

I agree with brother Wes the white /elitist power structure will never give in to any of our demands. We are the only ones who can take back everything that has been stolen. how do we accomplish that ?by not participating in  these European socialization systems. My heart and soul hurts every time I hear terms like asking someone for something that already belongs to us.  All we need to do is know who we are and start acting like the people who were put here to lead not follow. You can't expect someone to respect you when you don't respect your self. If we continue to worship white gods and waiting on someone to save us we are going to be waiting a long time.  All we have to do is stop doing what we are doing and return to the teaching of our own culture/ stand up and start acting like the nation we originated from.  hotep

Dear Brother Kweku,

Greetings. Below is an article that documents the rising international racism Black people have had to endure. To me, the time is past for engaging in long, drawn out discussions that do not impact the root causes of Blacks situation. It similar to masturbation. It feels good, but does not produce life.

What if we all obtained a copy of "PowerNomics" by Dr. Claud Anderson and engaged in discussing how to implement the strategies detailed in that book that addresses so many of the obstacles Black people in America and around the world are facing. That might glean some valuable insights that could be shared and utilized world-wide. Your thoughts? Peace, light and love to you and yours.

Black Wall Street International is basically trying to run plays out of the PowerNomics playbook so I definitely support and am happy to see PowerNomics being shared and promoted.

Does power concedes nothing without a DEMAND?

"Power concedes nothing without a demand" is a universal concept that is applicable to all areas of life.

There are two ways to analyze and conduct an inquiry into this statement:

  1. LINGUISTIC - Analyzing the key words of the sentence
  2. SCIENTIFIC - Using Newton's Law of Motion

By engaging in such an inquiry one may discover for himself a freedom to take concerted and committed in political arena - including racism.

http://youtu.be/56TCvGVUQKU  after reading words like the ones I'm reading here in this forum and some of the words from this video attached, I would just like to state that the real words of true/real thinking of  thoughts the right way do exist. the real main objective here is to change the outlook of the black people pattern of thinking, in the story Moses, his main objective was to get the Yisrealites(not Isrealies) that he set out to save from the wrath of Pharaoh to see that the God he was purposing to them was stronger and had more power than Pharaoh, his God, and his ring that always needed kissing. I believe that the black communities in America have need to see some real reflections of themselves as they are living daily to the existent where their own sub-conscientiousness will kick-in and cause they to change their own situations to the better for themselves in a positive manner if only because its the way nature planned it, and WE WILL CALL IT "A REAL REASON 2 BELIEVE!" after all no one will stand in a continuous rain or snow fall long, sense', be it common or not will kick in, a taste of this video is merely "food for thought" of how we been told what we been told, stuff we should be thinking about and asking why was it told us like that.

Thanks for participating.
Please, please get that you are not dealing with the question asked.

Once again here is the question and HINTS:

The final word.

"Power concedes nothing without a DEMAND".

This is highly factual.

This is not the whole story.

Why does power concedes nothing with out a demand?

What is a demand?

If I were to walk up to a big burly man with nothing in my hands and demand his wallet, he would likely laugh me to death or bash my head in.

If I had a gun, it is more likely that he would honor my demand.

Have you ever made a demand that was not fulfilled?

Ever wonder why?

Let's look again at the statement as a linguist.

The operative word is demand.

Demand is defined as:

  1. To call for with authority
  2. Forceful request: a clear and firm request that is DIFFICULT TO DENY OR IGNORE
  3. Ask for something strongly

No wonder demonstrators or petitioners "strong" demands are ignored.
They lack the authority to compel attention and compliance.

The NAACP and the NRA are very large organizations, the NRA, however, is more likely to have its demands met in Congress because on its authority at the ballot box and its financial leverage exercised as lobists etc

Congressional leaders ignore the NRA's demands at their peril.

Now let's look at "Power concedes nothing without a demand" from its application in the physical world - scientifically.

Newton's Law of Motion:

  • An object that is at rest will stay at rest unless an external force acts upon it.
  • An object that is in motion will not change its velocity unless an external force acts upon it.

Only a more powerful external force will move an entrenched power structure.
Only a more powerful external force will slow or halt the pace of the usually and historic occurrences.

Simply saying I WANT or I DEMAND has little impact.

Organizing, organizing, leveraging, leveraging and the ability to be in and use and be used by the object to be changed is what have power concedes - power only concedes to a more powerful opposing force.

The more I think about our condition and the things I believe we need to do in order to get ourselves out the less I see a need to "demand" anything but our own supply. Meaning... business is about supply and demand. Demand gets what it wants by paying supply. If we are demanding, let's say freedom or equality, then we are saying in the same breath that the ones we are demanding it of actually have it in supply. It also suggest that they are willing to give it. But... why would they? If the benefit to us is greater than the benefit to them then it would not be a good business deal. Whites, historically, make business deals that are far more favorable to them then those they are doing business with. Much of America wasn't "stolen" in the literal sense but stolen by natives accepting bad deals.

Now if someone is attempting to make bad deals with me then I lose interest in dealing with them at all. I dunno... maybe that's just me. But I think we need to get out of the mindset of thinking that "they" have what we need. I think they have an ILLUSION of wealth and power that depends on our FAITH! We have faith in them and in the power of their system, not realizing that it is we who supply that power. We are doing their work for them. What if we simply worked for ourselves? What if we supplied our own demands? What if we supported each other? What if we believed in ourselves? What if created our own infrastructure for doing business with each other? What if we took all the energy spent focusing on them and what they're doing to us and used that same energy to do something different, not against them, but simply FOR US? I don't think they are so successful because they hate us. I think they are successful because we hate ourselves. And if we don't hate ourselves then shouldn't we be doing things completely different?

request that you go to the dictionary and get acquainted with the language and the definitiion and distinctions to be gleaned from the word DEMAND as used in the question.
