The Black and Latino Filmmaker’s Coalition announces partnership with the 19th African American Women in Cinema Festival to host writer and producer workshops for new and struggling film makers.

The workshops will be held on Friday March 24th at LMHQ, 150 Broadway, New York, NY beginning with Introduction to Screenplay Writing at 10:30am and Introduction to Indie Producing at 3:30 pm. Attendance is available in classroom or via live stream. Both workshops are two and half hour intensives lead by BLFC founder and CEO, Babatunde Odesanya. According to Mr. Odesanya “The business of film has changed dramatically over last 10 years, unfortunately many Black and Latino writers and directors are still playing by outdated rules. Some established film makers are not able to navigate the new indie film paradigm in a way that makes their projects profitable.”

The Introduction to Writing and Introduction to Producing workshops will be part of the 19th annual African American Women in Cinema (AAWIC) Festival which runs in NYC from March 22nd to March 25th. AAWIC will feature the works of emerging and established women of color filmmakers from around the world and will offer world premiers, film screenings, keynote panels which focus on industry related topics, and special programs. It is the aspiration of African American Women In Cinema, through this Festival, to give talented women a path to fulfilling their dreams, through exposure of their talents, peer interaction and through mentoring by established professionals in the media and entertainment field.

“We have several great opportunities that align perfectly with AAWIC's mission. It is imperative that we educate our new writers, director and producers so they can take full advantage of funding and distribution opportunities,” says Mr. Odesanya whose latest film “Chapter and Verse” starring Lorreta Devine and Omari Harwick is enjoying a fantastic theatrical run since Feb. 3, 2017. Chapter and Verse was produced by Jonathan Sanger and Cheryl Hill, executive produced by Antoine Fuqua. Mr. Odesanya is credited as associate producer.
